Wake on the Great Plateau, walk alone to Hyrule Castle

Breath of the Wild walkthrough: turn amnesiac Link into a Hyrule wayfarer who reads the weather

Strength in Breath of the Wild isn't a level — it's your rapport with the wild. This route walks with you from the Great Plateau: open towers, clear shrines, bank stamina and armor, then learn to read the sky, dodge, and parry, and let the Champion abilities flatten the difficulty inch by inch.

Walk the world into a depot

Don't rush the final boss — first turn Hyrule itself into your supply depot.

In Breath of the Wild, power isn't an XP bar — it's exploration. The more towers, shrines, material spots, stables, and Great Fairy Fountains you open, the freer Link becomes.

01 / Early

Leave the Plateau, head to Kakariko Village

Follow the main quest to Impa, opening every tower and clearing every shrine on the way. At Kakariko, buy the Stealth set and unlock the nearby first Great Fairy Fountain.

  1. Don't brawl with Guardians on the road.
  2. Grab apples, mushrooms, meat, and bugs as you go.
  3. Spend Spirit Orbs on stamina first.
02 / Mid

Fix the Sheikah Slate at Hateno Village

Camera, Compendium, and Sensor+ upgrades make hunting materials, shrines, and gear far easier. After that, open towers region by region and clear shrines along the way.

  1. Photograph every material you use often.
  2. Save rupees for a few basic armor sets.
  3. Get the Climbing set — it transforms climbing.
03 / Online

Divine Beasts, 13 hearts, Master Sword

Grab the Champion abilities that boost exploration and survivability first, then bank 13 real hearts and pull the Master Sword in Korok Forest. It's rock-solid against the castle, beasts, and Guardians.

  1. Vah Medoh (wind) or Vah Ruta (water) first.
  2. Upgrade your main armor to at least 2 stars.
  3. Start practicing Lynels and parries.

First 10 hours: just solve “staying alive”

This stage isn't about godly gear — it's about map sense, supplies, and fundamentals. Stop dying over and over to missing stamina, meals, or armor.

Goals this stage

  • 01Leave the Great Plateau straight for Kakariko, clearing shrines en route.
  • 02Unlock your first Great Fairy Fountain and upgrade the Hylian or Stealth set.
  • 03Reach Hateno, fix the Sheikah Slate, and photograph materials and shrines.

Mistakes to skip

  • 01Don't brawl Lynels or packs of Guardians this early.
  • 02Don't sell off rare materials like Ancient Cores or Star Fragments.
  • 03Don't pour everything into hearts — low stamina drags out the whole game.

Laws of the Wild

In Hyrule, weather and terrain aren't a backdrop — they're the level designer.

The first thing veterans master isn't a weapon — it's reading the sky. These six laws turn the environment from random nuisance into a tool: learn the omen, and the world starts clearing a path for you.

Rain: cliffs become slides

Clouds gather; distant thunder rolls in.

The world's rule
Climbing in rain makes you slip on a cycle — steep faces are near-impossible.
Your move
Detour to gentle slopes, climb ledge-by-ledge, or light a fire and sit out the storm.

Lightning: metal is a death sentence

In a storm, your metal weapon starts glowing blue.

The world's rule
Bolts strike the tallest metal object — even crates and gates conduct.
Your move
Unequip metal instantly; or hurl a metal crate into a mob and let the sky clear it.

Cold & heat: dress first, then go

Your breath fogs, or heat-haze ripples the screen edge.

The world's rule
No resistance means a steady drain — charging a snowfield or volcano is slow suicide.
Your move
Carry a resist meal or the matching set; a torch or a Spicy Pepper buys time in a pinch.

Fire & wind: grass builds its own elevator

A long grassy slope with wind blowing uphill.

The world's rule
Burning grass makes an updraft — hot air lifts your paraglider.
Your move
Fire-arrow the grass, glide into the updraft to shoot up fast, then bow-snipe from the air.

Night: danger and opportunity clock in together

The sky darkens; eerie blue flames flicker in the distance.

The world's rule
Stalfos respawn at night, but starlight also makes sneaking and gathering quieter.
Your move
Wear Stealth to assassinate and catch fireflies; or sit by a fire to skip to morning.

Height: every mountain is a lookout

You spot an unvisited tower, peak, or column of smoke.

The world's rule
Hyrule rewards looking up — a high point almost always hides your next goal.
Your move
Climb it, scope and mark from the top, then choose your descent: glide, boulder, or shield-surf.

Ways to get strong

Six ways Link gets stronger — every one beats just picking up weapons.

Weapons break, so real combat power comes from the resource loop: stamina takes you to more places, materials cook into stronger meals, and armor upgrades let you survive your own mistakes. These six are the bedrock that turns "barely surviving" into "at ease anywhere."

Shrine

Shrines: hearts and stamina

  1. Spot a shrine, mark it, and clear it when you can.
  2. Trade every 4 Spirit Orbs at a Goddess Statue.
  3. Two stamina wheels first, then hearts to 10–13.
Armor

Armor: your margin for error

  1. Buy the Stealth set at Kakariko; add the Soldier set if fights feel hard.
  2. Find Great Fairy Fountains and upgrade with materials.
  3. Main sets to 2 stars, key sets to 4.
Cooking

Cooking: the most reliable “cheat”

  1. Cook same-effect ingredients together — never mix effects.
  2. Hearty for yellow hearts, Mighty for damage.
  3. Pack healing, stamina, and cold/heat resist before you leave.
Gear

Weapons: use them by tier

  1. Plain weapons for mobs — don't swing a great blade at ore.
  2. Elites get high-attack weapons and elemental arrows.
  3. Pack full? Dump low-damage weapons without regret.
Map

Map: towers first, then sweep

  1. New region? Find the tower and stable first.
  2. From the top, scope shrines, villages, and odd terrain.
  3. While traveling, grab ore, wood, bugs, and Koroks.
Skill

Combat: Flurry Rush sets your ceiling

  1. Lock on and read the sweep, thrust, and slam.
  2. Backflip a sweep, sidehop a thrust — trigger Flurry Rush.
  3. Practice Guardian parries with a plain shield first.

Turn fear into feel

From “getting chased” to “hunting Lynels for fun”.

Combat is more than the attack button. Lock-on, dodging, parrying, sneakstrikes, and environmental kills are the five core moves. Drill them and you'll fight clean even with mediocre gear. Hyrule's elites aren't walls — they're whetstones.

Flurry Rush: the first skill to drill
Good sparring partners: Bokoblins, Lizalfos, Moblins.
  1. Hold ZL to lock on.
  2. Backflip when they sweep; sidehop when they thrust or charge.
  3. When time slows, mash Y for the full Flurry Rush.
  4. Chain it 3 times in a row before facing tougher foes.
Perfect Guard (parry): the answer to Guardian lasers
Practice with a plain shield — no loss if it breaks. Up close to a Guardian, the sound and blue-light rhythm are easier to read.
  1. Hold ZL to raise the shield, facing the target.
  2. On the laser's charge-up sound, press A as the beam leaves the barrel.
  3. A clean parry reflects it back; if you miss, swap shields and keep going.
  4. Once solid, stagger Decayed Guardians by hacking a leg first.
Sneakstrikes and camp clearing: save weapons early
Night, the Stealth set, and sneaky meals sharply cut your detection. If a camp has explosive barrels, pop them with an arrow or bomb first.
  1. Crouch and approach sleeping or patrolling enemies from behind.
  2. On the Sneakstrike prompt, press Y for big bonus damage.
  3. Drop wizards, archers, and lookouts first, then the melee.
  4. From high ground, draw your bow for slow-mo headshots.
Environmental kills: less cost, more payoff
Hyrule isn't an arena — it's your toolbox.
  1. Magnesis a metal crate and slam it into enemies.
  2. Bomb foes off cliffs, or blast open ore deposits.
  3. Shock-arrow enemies holding metal — even better in the rain.
  4. Fire-arrow grass to make an updraft, then bow-snipe from the air.

Wisdom in the pot

A Link who cooks is far stronger than a Link who only swings a sword.

Every time you head out, carry four kinds of meal: healing, stamina, attack or defense, and an environment resist. When materials are plentiful, five of one effect in a pot is the no-brainer — a cooking pot is the shelter you carry with you.

Heal

Hearty (yellow heart) meals

The safest insurance before exploring or a boss. Yellow hearts erase the early-game risk of a small heart bar.

Try: Hearty Durian, Hearty Truffle, Hearty Radish. More of the same = more temporary hearts.
Damage

Attack-up (Mighty) meals

Eat these for Lynels, Divine Beast bosses, and arena fights. A high-attack weapon plus an attack meal slashes fight length.

Try: Mighty Bananas, Razorshroom, Mighty Porgy. Never mix with defense ingredients.
Tank

Defense-up (Tough) meals

When you don't know a moveset yet, defense beats attack — friendlier for learning fights.

Try: Fortified Pumpkin, Ironshroom, Armored Carp. Even better with high armor.
Explore

Stamina & resistance meals

Climbing, gliding, and cold, heat, or shock zones all come down to these. Don't stop exploring just because you're missing one outfit.

Try: Stamella Shroom, Staminoka Bass, Warm Safflina, Chillshroom, Voltfruit.

Song of the four Champions

Grab the Champion abilities that change exploration and survivability first.

Inside the four Divine Beasts sleep four Champions who died a century ago defending Hyrule. Reclaiming their power along this line is much friendlier for new players; Vah Naboris (thunder) has the hardest boss — go once your gear, meals, and dodging are solid.

Rito Village

Vah Medoh — Divine Beast of Wind

Ability: Revali's Gale. An instant updraft to launch from — a massive upgrade to climbing, traveling, and mapping.

  1. Pack cold-resist gear or meals.
  2. Bring plenty of arrows for the aerial fight.
  3. Once you have the ability, sweep nearby shrines.
Zora's Domain

Vah Ruta — Divine Beast of Water

Ability: Mipha's Grace. Auto-revive on death — huge survivability for new players.

  1. Pack Shock Arrows and healing meals.
  2. Mind the ice blocks and charges in the boss fight.
  3. Afterward you're far readier to train elites.
Goron City

Vah Rudania — Divine Beast of Fire

Ability: Daruk's Protection. Auto-blocks key hits — steadier against Guardians and elites.

  1. Buy fire-proof gear or carry Fireproof Elixirs.
  2. No wooden gear in volcano zones — it burns.
  3. Watch for ore along the way for easy rupees.
Gerudo

Vah Naboris — Divine Beast of Thunder

Ability: Urbosa's Fury. A huge AoE burst, but the lead-up and boss demand more skill.

  1. Pack shock-resist meals or the Rubber set.
  2. Drill parries and sidehops first.
  3. Bring high armor and a big stack of supplies.

Hyrule's tutors

The hardest enemies are also your best teachers.

Don't go in swinging on sight. Read the moveset, pack shields and meals, and fail cheaply. Win once and you'll see they're both ATMs for high-end gear and the tutors that push you from "can fight" to "can really fight."

Lynel

Lynel

Drill dodging, headshots, and mounted attacks. Riding its back deals damage without spending weapon durability — the key to farming.

  1. Backflip the sweep, sidehop the thrust.
  2. Headshot with a bow to stagger.
  3. Press A up close to mount, then back off on landing.
Guardian

Guardian

Avoid them early, parry them mid-game, then handle them cleanly late with the Ancient set, Ancient Arrows, and the Master Sword.

  1. Learn the laser parry with a plain shield.
  2. Hack a leg off a Decayed Guardian first.
  3. Skywatchers go down fast to Ancient Arrows.
Talus

Stone Talus

A great payday. Find the ore weak point on its back or head, climb up, and hit it with a hammer, two-hander, or bombs.

  1. Circle to the side to dodge its slam.
  2. Climb the body and wail on the ore.
  3. Sell the dropped ore, or save it for upgrades.
